England Win Penalty Shootout

This is the headline that England fans will never see in a major tournament. It has to be said that England, when it comes to penalty shootouts, are just awful. We flop in the biggest style possible. So this is how we saw ourselves being shown the exit from the World Cup, via a penalty shootout with Portugal, in an identical replay to two years ago in Portugal in the European Championship. Two of the best, most reliable midfielders in the Premiership missed their penalties, and it has to be said, Lampard didn't have a good World Cup. I think next time we should get a special blue shirt for him because you can bet your money that if he had been in the blue of Chelsea he would have won the Golden Boot already!

On the plus side, this is the last we will see of Sven. Good bye, good ridance. Never really brought anything to the English national team except scandal with his never ending affairs. So yesterday wasn't a total loss...

Well, there's always four years time. Bring on the World Cup 2010!

Another England game, another below par performance. But, at the end of the day, we are through and Ecuador aren't, so we must be doing something right, ish. Our next apponents are Portugal, who beat Holland in a very heated tie that saw four players sent off. One of whom was Deco, who was Portgual's biggest strength last night, so England can be positive about that as he won't be playing next Saturday due to suspension, as will Costina.

England need a good performance, we need some of our stars to start shining, and we will need it soon, starting Saturday. So come on, get behind the lads!

Come On England... [part 3]

England played their final group game last night against Sweden, finished 2-2. We started off with a nightmare with Owen injuring his knee in the first minute, which is never helpful. After that set back, we started playing some ok football, nothing special, and took the lead with a sublime goal from Joe Cole, which is how it stayed til half time.

Second half however was a completely different and England decided to just stop playing. We spent most of it in our own half and ultimately Sweden levelled it off. Rooney came off and Gerrard came on, and in the 83rd minute, Gerrard headed us ahead, but then Sweden scored probably the worst goal that will be seen at this tournament, the defending by England was appauling. So in the 90th minute, Sweden got their equaliser, but by then it didn't matter, we only needed a draw to win the group.

So next Sunday we play Ecuador in the knockout phase; we are going to have to play a lot better than we have been if we are to have any impact on this tournament!

Another unconvincing victory for England in the World Cup, but three points is three points! Crouch finally broke England's duck by scoring in the 83rd minute, and Gerrard got the second in the 88th minute. But the best thing about the match was the introduction of Rooney, who I don't think any England fan expected to see play in this tournament.

Sweden play Paraguay tonight, if they don't win, then England have already won the group, which is a fantastic position to be in going into the final game of the group stage. We just need to pick our game up if we are going to proceed any further after the group stage!

England kicked off their World Cup campain today with a 1-0 win over Paraguay. We got off to the best possible start with a goal in the 4th minute. We had a few good chances in the first half, but in the second half Paraguay started seeing a lot more of the ball, admittedly, with the help of the referee making some very questionable decisions in their favour. But at the end of the day, we have three points on the board
